Do the Shuffle

March 26, 2007

I got (read: stole!) this idea from Baby Blues, who got the idea from Sarah

Since I really don’t have much to talk about today, I’ve decided to play along too. Plus I think it’s a great idea. What you do is set your music player to shuffle. Skip through your randomized playlist, and each consecutive song that comes up is the answer to the following questions in order.

I have done what BB did – grabbed the lyrics that struck me as I was listening to it. Funny how it works – pretty much any song can be “spun” to relate to whatever it is you’re thinking about.

1. The song for the you that existed before you ever thought about your fertility:
Last Dance – Cure
“I’m so glad you came I’m so glad you remembered
The walking through walls in the heart of December
The blindness of happiness of falling down laughing
and I really believed that this time was forever”

2. Would you really want to go back and be that person again?
If I Ever Lose my Faith in You – Sting
“You could say I lost my faith in science and progress
You could say I lost my belief in the holy church
You could say I lost my sense of direction
You could say all of this and worse but
If I ever lose my faith in you
There’d be nothing left for me to do”

3. The song for when you first started fertility treatments:
April in Paris – Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong
“Never knew the charm of spring
I never met it face to face
I never knew my heart could sing
I never missed a warm embrace
Till april in paris
Whom can I run to
What have you done to my heart”

4. What did infertility do to your sex life?
Levi Blues – David Wilcox
“I went to the laundry
Did what you were never supposed to do.
I washed a brand new pair of Levi’s
And every single thing in there turned blue…”

5. What about superstitions and fertility rituals?
With or Without You – U2
“I wait for you
Sleight of hand and twist of fate
On a bed of nails she makes me wait
And I wait without you”

6. How about “alternative” treatments (such as accupuncture, yoga…)?
East Asheville Hardware – David Wilcox
“You go first to that age-old place
To that old wooden door
that you have to close behind you
To the wide-board wooden floorworn down soft
To the real thing…”

7. How do you feel about coming out of the IF closet?
No One Mourns the Wicked – from the “Wicked” soundtrack
“Nothing grows for the Wicked
They reap only
What they’ve sown”

8. Your song for other people’s baby showers:
May Queen – Liz Phair
“I spy a May queen
You were miles above me
Girls in your arms
The changing of her majesty’s guard is truly amazing.”

9. What about our scary friend hope?
Sledgehammer – Peter Gabriel
“You’ve been coming through
Going to build that power
Build, build up that power, hey
I’ve been feeding the rhythm
I’ve been feeding the rhythm
Going to feel that power, build in you”

10. And lastly, the theme song of your fertility journey:
Hallo Elskin Min – Voltaire
“I think of you and my heart is full
Come home, my dear
It’s so cold without you here.”

And as a total aside… I might have been lying about AF’s arrival. She’s been more of a stop-and-go presence in the Serenity household these past couple of days. Heavy yesterday for about an hour, then light, then heavy again. Then nothing today.

So I might have been a little… premature… to announce her presence yesterday.

Bitch is toying with me.

Bitch is indeed toying. I am having the same sort of period right now. Strange. Came early, has been on and off.

I love this game, but I need to get an iPod to play :-)

Dear Serenity, those songs are uncanny! And as an aside, I think we have very similar things on our iPods…

Yep, AF is toying with you. It’s what she does best, no? Let’s hope the matter is settled very soon.

What a cool idea. I’m going to have to try that with my IPOD..!

Sorry AF is toying with you. It does that to me all the time as well.

Mmmnn, wonder whats going on with that wicked witch? She’s just a difficult bitch.

    I love this one:
“I think of you and my heart is full
    Come home, my dear
It’s so cold without you here.”

Enjoyed it. I might have to steal it to occupy some time.

Sucks that AF is playing hide and seek – just like the bitch to do so, though.

I’m going back to the dr to get my bitch to stop showing up every 2 weeks for 2 weeks! So I understand the ‘what the heck’ complexity….
I’m glad the shower went well. Yes, another post, but there were too many comments there so I jumped ahead (0: There will probably be moments of jealousy, but I think you’re past the hump. And it is progress!

#2 was eerily accurate for IF! And AF did that to me last month. She’s mean. It’s like she’s waiting for you to give a speech while wearing your best undies and white linen pants.

    I also liked the lines:
“I think of you and my heart is full
    Come home, my dear
It’s so cold without you here.”
    Very meaningful.

That cow has been at it all over blogland, it would seem. She needs a serious ass-kicking out of here one of these days!

Ok now you’re scaring me, since those songs were sooo close and true to what they would describe, I’ll play tonight as I walk.

I am sorry about the Bitch, hope she finds her way to you and is fast about it.
