Milestones and shopping.
October 1, 2007
There’s really nothing better than a pumpernickel bagel with cream cheese.
It’s the Best Thing Ever.
So I hit another milestone late last week. For the past, oh, 5 weeks or so I’ve had a case of the disappearing belly. It would show up in the evenings, and the next morning it would disappear without a trace.
Well, I was getting used to it. In the mornings my regular pants would fit, and as the day progressed I’d have to unbutton them – all under, of course, my bel.la band.
It came to pass last week that one morning I couldn’t button my pants at all.
I confess I had a minor panic attack. Because though my SIL did pass on some maternity clothes, the work outfits were decidedly lacking (read: I would not wear a lot of them if you held a gun to my head). J thinks I’m picky about my wardrobe, but really it’s just that I know what looks good on me.
And trust me, pastel pantsuits do NOT look good on me.
So this weekend we were headed to Maine to visit with J’s aunt K and uncle D. They’re fantastic people who struggled with IF themselves, and they’ve been great to us. And so we told them pretty much immediately when we got there that we were pregnant; they were thrilled and happy and excited, et cetera.
And the next morning, K pressed $100 in my hand and said “The good news about being pregnant? You get to shop for maternity clothes!” As much as I protested that we didn’t need the money, she insisted and said that she had given my SIL the same amount for shopping.
So I hit up a local Tar.get.
And did I ever SCORE.
Three pairs of work slacks. None with that silly panel that goes up to my boobs – these have a soft elastic band that sit just below my bellybutton. And two sweaters which are nice and long and actually showcase my little baby bump – without making me look fat.
*sighs in rapture* I am so thrilled to have clothes that I WANT to wear to work that I am giddy.
Another milestone hit late last week – I told a girlfriend at work that I am pregnant. She told me on Friday that someone who I had seen in passing actually asked her if I was expecting.
So I believe that this will be week where I begin sharing our news with my work colleagues and managers.
Eeek.

YAY on finding some clothes you’re excited to wear. I personally found that I hated pants with panels, even later on, and was able to wear the under-belly stuff throughout.
So glad you got to share the news with J’s aunt and uncle. Your family must be so thrilled for you guys, especially the ones who know your struggle.
Happy 13 weeks (and 2 days). *I* am thrilled beyond words for you!!

Jesus, that really is a milestone! Telling work folks, buying maternity clothes, people thinking you’re pregnant by looking at you! WOohooooooooo! I’m so happy you’ve made it this far.

I also could wear the under-belly stuff throughout – it seems slightly less undignified. I’m glad you’ve found some good clothes!

I loved Target when I was pregnant…for the reason of the low band. Glad you are happy about wearing the clothes…they are so comfy.
Anyway….I agree on no pastel pantsuits.
Congrats on another milestone.

Don’t you love that maternity clothes are actually cute now? I remember in the “old days” when pregnancy meant you had to wear tent dresses and horrible polyester stretch pants. But now I see so many cute outfits that show-case the baby bump. I can’t wait to be able to start trying some on….some day…please, please, please.
Target ROCKS. Have you tried the Old Navy maternity clothes yet?

I think we need a picture, just for fun, of the pastel jumpsuit. It makes me think of Sally O’Malley. Kicking. Stretching.
