My little boy.
January 26, 2009
Thank you for the support on my husband vent. (And OMG, My Reality’s story about her husband was TOO FUNNY.)
I think it all comes down to the fact that I feel like I’m bearing all the responsibility for looking out for Baby O’s safety. Especially now, when we’re not QUITE babyproofed, I’d really like for J to be a bit more vigilant.
The good news is that we agreed on some “house rules.” As in, unless there’s a Big Important Sports Thing on, the TV doesn’t go on when Baby O is awake. It’s a simple rule, but one that will save us some friction down the line. (Thanks D for the idea.)
So yesterday was THE DAY.
The day we took Baby O for his first haircut.
You can see from the video that his hair was LONG. In his eyes. I was consistently pushing it out of his eyes, and I expect Baby O was tired of it too.
So yesterday morning, after installing his Big Boy Carseat (a new convertible seat YAY! No more lugging that freaking heavy bucket to and from daycare!)… We went to Snip-Its – a place that specializes in kid haircuts.
He was a touch overwhelmed, what with the noise and colors and everything, but he held it together enough to smile for the camera for my “before” shot.

And then The Scary Lady With The Scissors wet his hair, and he absolutely LOST it.

This was the last picture I was able to get at the hair place – I ended up having to sit him on my lap for the rest of his haircut, while he sobbed and sobbed from the indignity of the whole experience.
After it was all over, and we paid, and got him calmed down, we all went out for lunch to celebrate his bravery.
As he was sitting there, calmly eating his puffs, I looked over and almost fell off my chair.
Because this is what I saw.

When did my itty bitty baby turn into a little boy?

It all happens so fast, doesn’t it??

Every time my kids get their hair cut, they seem to age at least a few months!

That pulls at my heartstrings like I can’t even tell you. It’s been 7 months since Aiden has his first haircut and I can still remember it like it was yesterday. He definitely went from baby to boy and that is SO hard.
The cut is ADORABLE though!

Strumming my own heartstrings over here. I wish I had pictures of every second because the time is slipping away too, too fast.

What a big boy! Glad he survived the trauma.
) So relieved I don’t have to have Grace’s hair cut. She would probably implode with anxiety!

OMG! It’s amazing what a difference a haircut makes in terms of a baby looking grown-up! He looks great, and SO mature! We are nowhere near a haircut here. The minimal hair is the one thing about Baby A that’s still very baby-like.
He’s going to look great in those 1-yr pics!

We had the snip-its experience, too and were shocked at the difference as well. It’s too crazy to watch how quickly they change!
He’s such a cutie, though!

oh he is soooo cute. I love the haircut! My little guys have long hair in the back but not up front, so I’ve been putting it off.
I feel exactly like you do everytime I look at them, when did you become little people, esp when Jacob toddles around our house like he owns the place, his walking is adorable but reminds me so much that they are not babies anymore at all. We not only have convertible seats, but the babies are turned toward us now that they are 1. You should see (and you will) the face they make when they realize you can turn around and see them….they were mouth opened awed!!!!
he’s adorable Serenity!!!! what a cutie pie.
